interview with Rebecca from the Clothes Horse

I got the chance to ask the wonderful Rebecca from The Clothes Horse a few questions!
Her blog is one of the best personal style blogs out there. Her wardrobe is amazing and she is such a poetic writer! Her blog was actually the first blog I got into reading, and eventually led me to start my own blog. I feel so lucky to have gotten the chance to interview her!

1.Tell us a little about yourself.  I’m 23, introverted, and I spend far too much time online blogging.

2. Tell us something we may not know about you. I don’t have a hometown. My father is in the army, so I grew up moving every three years. Because of this I don’t have an attachment to one place and never know what to say when people ask where I’m from. I’ve lived in 7 different States and in 3 other countries.

3. How did you first start blogging? I started in the summer of 2007 and it was just going to be a general style blog. It wasn’t originally my intention to be a personal style blog, but I quickly found that posting things I found online wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to generate my own material and express my creativity, so I started documenting my outfits and then I put even more effort into my photography.

4. Other than blogging, how do you like to spend your time? I work doing a bit of freelance online and I’ve got a couple of projects I’m planning. In a short while I will be traveling to Europe with my sister and that should occupy me for awhile! My more typical hobbies: reading, drawing, watching old movies, and spending time outdoors.

5. How would you describe your style? Whimsical, quirky, and unintentionally ladylike; I have a penchant for vintage dresses, but I mix things up with interesting tights, vintage hats, and unique jewelry.

6. What do you think everyone should have in their closet? I don’t think there is one item that works for everyone, but I just believe in having clothes that make you happy. You have to get dressed in the morning, so it is great to have pieces in your closet that make getting dressed a pleasure.

7. When did you start becoming interested in fashion? In some ways I was always interested in personal style. When I was very young my mother would go to the fabric store with me and then she would make dresses from the styles and prints I chose. In junior high I discovered Japanese street fashion through Fruits (the book and magazine) and became obsessed with that. However, I never read a fashion magazine or saw a runway collection until I was a senior in high school. So, I suppose fashion in the typical industry definition is a slightly more recent development.
8. You have such great D.I.Y. projects. Have you ever considered going into design? Thank you! I did consider design at some point when I was younger, but I’m just not certain I have the drive for it. My projects are really sporadic and my inspiration works the same, so I don’t think I have the type of focus it would take to produce anything regularly. I could see myself opening a small Etsy shop, but it would have to be a side-line, part-time gig.

9. Which blogs are your favorite? Style Bubble, Calivintage, Hannah and Landon, Miss Pandora, this list could go on and on…

10. What are some of your goals for the future? I’m one of those unfortunate people who doesn’t know what they want to do, so my goals are rather fluid; to find an occupation that I enjoy and to be able to travel a lot. A more solid goal: start law school in a year and hopefully finish with a degree.

11. What advice would you give to new bloggers? Blog about what you love. Blogging can be very time-consuming and the only way to sustain your blog is to really find something you won’t get bored with. In addition, generate your own material. If people can find what you’re blogging on elsewhere; they generally will. The best thing you can bring to your blog is your originality, so generating your own material really showcases who you are to your readers.

thanks again Rebecca for doing this interview! if you haven't already read Rebecca's blog, you really, really should, you won't regret it!

always;L
